How to Import cPanel Email to Outlook PST Format?

cPanel is the web hosting control panel used by millions of shared hosting accounts. Every cPanel installation includes Webmail where you can access email hosted on your domain. PST is Microsoft Outlook’s data file format for storing emails, contacts and calendar items offline.

Whether you’re migrating from cPanel hosting to a different email provider, creating offline backups, or consolidating email into Outlook, converting cPanel email to PST is a common task. There are two ways to do it.

Method 1: Configure cPanel in Outlook Then Export PST

This method uses Outlook’s built-in Import/Export Wizard. You first add your cPanel email account to Outlook via IMAP, then export the mailbox to PST. This requires a licensed copy of Outlook on your Windows machine.

Step 1: Add cPanel Email Account to Outlook

Open Outlook and click File, then Account Settings, then Add Account. You’ll see the account setup wizard.

Step 2: Enter Your cPanel Email Details

Enter your cPanel email address. Outlook will attempt automatic configuration. If it doesn’t detect your settings automatically, choose Manual Setup and enter the IMAP server details from your cPanel Email Accounts section.

Step 3: Select IMAP

If setting up manually, select IMAP as the account type. IMAP gives you full access to all folders in your cPanel mailbox, not just the inbox.

Step 4: Enter Your Password and Connect

Enter your email password and click Connect. Outlook authenticates with the cPanel IMAP server and loads your mailbox folders.

Step 5: Export to PST Using Import/Export Wizard

Once the account is configured and emails are synced, go to File, then Open and Export, then Import/Export. Choose Export to a File, then Outlook Data File (.pst). Select your cPanel account folders and click Finish to create the PST file.

This method works well but has two downsides: Outlook must be installed and licensed, and Outlook must sync all emails before export which can take hours for large mailboxes.

Step 1: Launch Email Backup Wizard

Step 2: Enter cPanel Email Credentials
