Sometimes it happens that accidentally Outlook user’s folder is move to some other location during the time they are performing some other task. In such situation, they are not able to find back that moved folder back to its original location. Since users could have lot of folders, so going through each folder is not as such possible.

Now point arises, how can I find a lost folder in Outlook? MS Outlook does not provide any direct method, which guarantees to extract lost folders. Also, no organization have create any software that deals with such issue. Apart from direct method or software, we have some indirect methods. It will not guarantees for such, but yes in some cases, it is possible to extract the lost folders. Following are such cases:

Case 1: If folder is Lost, by Dragging and Dropping

By mistake, at the time when folder is lost, when user is performing drag and drop action (for performing some other task). Then, one of the condition may be that a folder may be move one folder below, can be visible to user. Hence, click on arrow to expand the displaying folders and move back the lost folder to its original place.

Case 2: Folder is Lost, and User Recognize That Later

In such case, above solution is not applicable. Then, to deal with this case user may get a list of folder by performing the following tasks:

  1. Right click on root of mailbox.
  2. Choose Data File Properties.
  3. Click Folder Size, which will list user the folders that user have, with folder name and its location.
  4. After determining the folder location Browse the lost folder.

Case 3: If Items of Lost Folder are Known

One of the item of lost folder is known. Then, mailbox-wide search is used which allow user to determine which folder consists that item. To execute mailbox-wide search, perform following steps:

  1. Press CTRL+E and the CTRL+ALT+A for search field to open whose purpose is to set search scope to all MS Outlook items.
  2. At the top of the MS Outlook screen, double click on “All Outlook Items” and the press CTRL+SHIFT+F, which will open Advanced Find dialog box.
  3. Select ‘Any type of Outlook’ in ‘look for’ field and enter the item name in ‘Search for the word(s)’ field and then click on ‘Find Now’
  4. The details of item with its folder name will display at the bottom of Advance Find dialog leading to retrieve the lost folder location.
  5. Determine the folder path and then move it back to its designated location.
