If you are looking for a solution to migrate Windows Live Mail to another platform, then download Windows Live Mail Converter Tool.

Step 1: Deactivate Old Account

As the mailbox is not working therefore, new messages will not be downloaded into account. Moreover, no synchronization will take place. Therefore, it is better to deactivate it that will ensure that the folder structure content will be intact at the time of the transaction by following given steps:

  • Click on the Account Name >> click on Properties
  • Deselect an option of ‘Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing’ from the General tab.
  • Once it is done then, click on Apply and Ok.

Step 2: Set New IMAP Account

  • Set up new IMAP account to totally eliminate Windows Live Mail error 3219 (0x8de00005), press Ctrl-Shift + T >> begin “Add your email accounts, wizard”.
  • Enter email id, password, and display the name for outgoing messages.
  • Choose “Manually configure server settings” >> click Next.
  • Choose IMAP for Incoming Server and for incoming server address enter “outlook.office365.com” and port as “993”.
  • Now, Choose “Requires a secure connection (SSL)”.
  • Choose clear text for the “Authenticate using”.
  • Now, enter the full email address for the “Log-on username”.

Note: You can see IMAP server name – “imap-mail.outlook.com”. However, servers with the name are not consistent anymore. Thus, altering it to “outlook.office365.com” is a more reliable option and provides better results as well. Even changing a server name will not affect messages that are present in the mailbox.

  • Set an Outgoing mail server address as “smtp.live.com” and change the port to “587”.
  • Choose an option “Requires a secure connection (SSL)” and “Requires authentication”.
  • Now, click on Next and Finish.

The program will try to simply connect and download the account folders with its contents. Once it is completed, choose properties with a simple right-click on account name.

  • Go to IMAP tab, choose “Check for new messages in all folders” & “Store special folders on IMAP server”.
  • Enter the following paths:
  1. Sent Items path:
  2. Drafts path:
  3. Deleted Items path:
  4. Junk path:
  • Once it is done then, open “Show/Hide IMAP folders” and click on “Reset List” button to refresh the folder list from the server.

Step 3: Remove Old Account

Once you have shifted all your email messages from old account to your new one successfully. Then, you can remove your old account. This will help to permanently delete all your messages as well as folders present in your old mailbox. An old account will be removed from folder pane. Even, this step is irretrievable.
